Travel to Edinburgh

Edinburgh is an extremely accessible city with excellent air, rail and bus links.

By Train

Trains (East Coast) from London Kings Cross leave every hour, with a journey time scheduled at around 4.5 hours. East Coast trains travel up the east coast line and their website is www.eastcoast.co.uk.

Virgin trains provide direct cross country services to many other cities in England. The Virgin trains website is www.virgintrains.co.uk.

Edinburgh's principal railway terminus is Waverley Station, less than 30 minute walk from Pollock Halls. A taxi will cost around £7-£8 and there is a taxi rank located inside the station. There is also Haymarket Station, at the west end of Princes Street where trains from the West Coast or from Glasgow will also stop.

By Coach/Bus

Coaches arrive in St Andrews Square, located almost directly across Princes Street from the Waverley Train Station. St Andrews Square is a 30 minute walk from Pollock Halls.

There are frequent services from London Victoria Bus Station to Edinburgh. Further information can be obtained from National Express or telephone 08717 818178 .

By Air

Edinburgh Airport (tel: 0844 448 8833 / web: www.edinburghairport.com) has direct flights to most UK airports and to most European capitals. It is located about a 20 minute drive west of the city centre.

Travelling from the airport to the city centre

There is a frequent shuttle service from Edinburgh Airport to the city centre Airlink (£6 return fare, journey time 25-30 mins). Discounted tickets for the Airlink bus (£5.50 return) are available in advance from the Edinburgh Convention Bureau. Buy the ticket by clicking here.

Travel within Edinburgh

Edinburgh's city centre is compact, so you may find that walking is the best way to get around. The John McIntyre Centre and Pollock Halls are about a mile and a half from the city centre. Edinburgh does not have an underground system and work on the new tram system is ongoing, but it does have a frequent and comprehensive bus service.

The Venue page of this website has a map which highlights key places.
